Former WWE Women’s World Champion, Rhea Ripley, opened up about the emotional fallout following the breakup of her faction, Judgment Day, at SummerSlam 2024. The group, initially formed in 2022 by Edge, Damian Priest, and Ripley, had expanded over the years with the addition of Finn Bálor, Dominik Mysterio, and JD McDonagh. Despite their success, the faction’s run came to a shocking end when Dominik Mysterio turned on Ripley, and Finn Bálor betrayed Damian Priest during the event.
Though the split was part of the WWE storyline (kayfabe), Ripley revealed that it had a profound personal impact on her. Reports had surfaced of a faction member crying backstage, and during a recent interview on The Wrestling Classic, Ripley confirmed that it was indeed her who had been overcome with emotion.
The Judgment Day was really family to me, like it really was,” Ripley explained, as quoted by TJR Wrestling. “It has helped my career so much more than I can actually put into words because I feel like that was when I started opening up and feeling comfortable going out there in front of the crowd because I had the boys to fall back on. So it was really emotional for me.
Ripley expressed no shame about her tears, noting that the bond she shared with the members of Judgment Day over the past two and a half years was incredibly special. “The boys were like family to me, and I was deeply saddened by the end of it all,” she said. While mourning the end of an era, Ripley acknowledged that they were all moving towards something better, with new opportunities on the horizon.
“That was the most fun I’ve had in my career in a long time,” Ripley added. “I felt invincible. I felt like I could go out there and just be a cheeky little menace, get away with it for real, and have fun with my friends.”
Following the Judgment Day split, Ripley has now aligned with Damian Priest, forming a new duo known as the “Terror Twins.” At the WWE Premium Live Event, Bash in Berlin, held on August 31, 2024, Ripley and Priest secured a victory in a tag team match against Liv Morgan and Dominik Mysterio.
Next up for Ripley is a high-stakes battle at Bad Blood on October 5, 2024, where she will defend her WWE Women’s World Championship against Liv Morgan.
