Tom Holland is set to star in Christopher Nolan’s latest film, joining Matt Damon in a highly secretive project. Nolan, who wrote and is directing the film, will see it distributed by Universal Pictures with a planned release date of July 17, 2026.

While plot details remain tightly guarded, sources hint that the movie will not be set in the present day, though it’s unclear if it will take place in the past or the future. Nolan is once again teaming up with his producing partner and wife, Emma Thomas, under their Syncopy production company.

This project marks a continuation of Nolan’s collaboration with Universal, the studio behind Oppenheimer, which was a massive success both critically and commercially. The film earned Nolan his first Oscars for Best Director and Best Picture and grossed an impressive $976 million worldwide. Oppenheimer was Nolan’s first project with Universal, following his departure from Warner Bros. in 2020. Unlike Oppenheimer, which Universal won in a competitive bidding process, this new project went straight to the studio, suggesting an even stronger bond between Nolan and Universal.

Matt Damon, who has worked with Nolan on both Oppenheimer and Interstellar (2014), will be familiar to the director’s fans, but this will be Tom Holland’s first time working with Nolan. Holland’s involvement is expected to shake up his busy schedule. He’s set to juggle this new role alongside filming Spider-Man 4 and potentially Avengers: Doomsday next year. The delays to Spider-Man 4 have already had a ripple effect, pushing Zendaya’s work on Dune 3 to early 2026 instead of next year.

Holland, who was last seen in the 2023 Apple TV+ miniseries The Crowded Room, is represented by WME and Sloane Offer.
