When asked about them in a pre-series press conference, Gambhir shot back: “What does Ponting have to do with Indian cricket? He should focus on Australian cricket. I have no concerns. Kohli and Rohit are incredibly tough men, and they’ve achieved a lot for Indian cricket and will continue to do so in the future.”
In response, Ponting told 7News he was “surprised” by Gambhir’s reaction but not entirely shocked, describing the India coach as a “prickly character.” He reiterated that his comments weren’t meant to insult Kohli but were instead intended to highlight the expectations around a player of his caliber.
